The Star by Hackney Downs to re-open in April…

The Star by Hackney Downs refurb plans

It’s no secret that I love a good pub. I am sometimes at my happiest, cosying up in a nook somewhere, with a pint of something cold (yes – really), a game of Scrabble and the chatter of locals discussing every-day events.

Give me a pub with great food, and seriously, I’m won over. Much as I still enjoy the fancy-pants London bars that charge you £20 a drink (and I really do), I’m at my happiest with a seat, good friends, a few drinks and some great quality food.

It’s a rather scary fact that on average 2 pubs close in the UK each day. That’s 2 business-owners looking for work. 2 less local places to meet – and 2 scruffy old men who sit at the end of the bar ALL THE TIME with nowhere to go. So it pleases me to learn that instead of shutting it’s doors forever, Clapton’s local, The Star by Hackney Downs, is due to re-open on April 11th.

The bar will focus on providing a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere that allows locals to indulge in a pint, good food and great music on their door step. The famous stoned baked pizza oven of Mario’s Pizza from the Star of Bethnal Green will be prominent on the menu, Love Drink will be supplying an assortment of spirits, and local ale brands Trumans Brewery, Redchurch Beer and London Fields Brewery will be providing a superior selection of beers. It also has a wonderfully large outdoor terrace – ready for the warn weather (if it ever arrives!) and some cracking event spaces for you to hire.

The redesign is bespoke and quirky, perfect for the area. It will based around the idea of a Victorian circus, and the main bar will be featured around a carousel making it a focal point of the pub.

Keep up with the changes on their Facebook page. Looks like it’s going to be good!
