I am a BIG lover of steak. Adore it.
I’m also terribly fussy about steak. It has to be rare. It has to be well charred on the outside, yet pink, melty and delicious within. It has to be well seasoned. And it has to be great quality.
Yep, I’m a steak snob, and I’m happy to admit it.
In London, my favourite steak restaurant is Goodman, although Hawksmoor does a great job too. Outside London? It has to be Prime Steak and Grill. As good as any London establishment, if not better. Seriously good (and worth the travel).
I’ve never really been a steak at home kind of girl though. Mainly because I would HATE to do a great piece of meat an injustice by cooking it wrong, and also because it’s a treat thing. And cooking it myself isn’t so much of a treat.
However. When Donald Russell got in touch about their wares, I shifted in my seat a little. Because Donald Russell are THE BOMB and I knew their steaks would be the thing of dreams. Would I like to test some of their freshly frozen Sirloins? LetmethinkaboutthatfornosecondsHELLYES.
Luckily for me, big brother is a Chef, so when I told him to expect a meat parcel from Donald Russell he was understandably delighted. (Our Mother used to buy meat from this impressive Butcher, so we’re both fans already). He chose to cook them in a marinade recommended by Donald Russell themselves, and we were honestly all super excited about the results. Yep, we’re a family of carnivores, and extremely happy ones at that.
Sorry vegans. We’re just not playing.
Anyway. I’m not really going to bore you with more words, because let’s face it, MEAT.
The pictures are good, but my GOD, the taste was better. If you’re a steak lover (or meat lover in general) I highly recommend checking out Donald Russell and ordering yourself up a treat.
I’ll send my brother round to cook them for you* if you want. He did a stellar job.
(Massive, massive apologies to Donald Russell, as this post is long overdue – I actually meant to post it before Christmas. Definitely time to reorder and do this all again!)
