New Restaurant: Flesh & Buns, Covent Garden, London
The oddly named “Flesh & Buns” opens it’s doors in Covent Garden for the first time today. This Asian inspired venue is brought to you by the team that run highly successful Soho Ramen bar, Bone Daddies (headed up by Ross Shonhan, former head chef of Zuma and Nobu)
The new Izakaya* restaurant will serve an extended menu of casual Japanese food, designed for sharing. Set in the basement of it’s Earlham Street address, the restaurant features a number of large tables, perfect for groups, and a proper cocktail bar dedicated to serving up a selection of Japanese-inspired drinks.
The main feature on the menu will be “Hirata**” Buns, filled with your choice of meat (or flesh, as the name suggests. not quite so delicious sounding). The buns will be served on a sharing platter along with sauce, a choice of pickles and lettuce so you can “build your own”. There’s also be a small selection of sashimi, sushi and salad dishes.
The restaurant will be open 7 days for lunch and dinner. Lunch will cost around £20 while dinner (with drinks) will be approximately £40per head.
*An izakaya (居酒屋?) is a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks
** Hirata buns are Asian-style bakery rice buns
