Easter Eggstravagance…The Best Last Minute Theatre, Hotel & Mini-Break Ideas This Weekend

May Fair Hotel Chocolate Easter Afternoon Tea

Three words for you, my friends.

I don’t know about you, but that really excites me. It doesn’t just mean no work. It means four days of family, four days of lovers (and loving, if you’re lucky), four days of adventures and exploring and for a lot of you, four days of chocolate.

That’s something to celebrate, right?!

I feel incredibly lucky, as JW and I are off to see The Book of Mormon tonight, and then jumping on the train down to Exeter (where we met!) tomorrow to visit the GORGEOUS Magdalene Chapter Hotel and Spa – so expect a whole lot of photos and updates over the weekend! The weather forecast is dire so we may be forced to spend our time cuddled up in cosy clothes inside the luxurious surroundings, sipping coffees and reading and lounging and being lovely. I’m sure you’ll agree that’s a terrible shame…

If that statement has made you a teeny bit jealous, I apologise, but it’s not too late to book your own theatre trip or mini-break this weekend. If you want to escape and treat yourself to something special for a day or two, here are some of our favourite escapes available for special reduced prices this weekend. Get booking (and if you do, please let me know in the comments below. I’d like to be nosy and see what you chose!)

The-Book-of-Mormon-poster-2Book of Mormon

Billed as one of the best musicals of all time, the West End extravaganza, by the creators of South Park, is outrageous, hilarious and is the winner of a whopping nine Tony Awards®. The show follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City.

The show broke all West End records, taking a ridiculous £2.1m the day after opening. London producers released an additional 150,000 tickets last Friday, extending the show’s run until January 2014. EVERYONE is talking about the show, so if you want to join in, get your tickets here. Starting at £41…I think it’s well worth it to see such an original and bonkers show!

Get tickets from £41 at LastMinute, or if you want to make it something a little bit special, combine tickets with a 3 Course Dinner & Glass of Champagne at The Ritz for £144 from Love Theatre.

One ManOne Man Two Guvnors

A brilliant comedy, which has received fantastic reviews and saw James Cordon emerge as a talented stage actor.

Tickets are available right now on Viagogo for this weekend at just £18.90. Bargain!

If this isn’t up your street and you fancy something a little bit different, check out other special offers and theatre & meal deals from Lastminute and Love Theatre, where you’ll find up to 60% off. Not to be sniffed at!

Mini Break Offers

Sometimes, you don’t actually want to leave London, but fancy a little bit of luxury, some opulent surrounding and having someone else make your bed for a day or two. These are my favourite hotel deals in the Capital, with a few added extras or reductions thrown in;

May Fair HotelThe May Fair Hotel

Always a favourite with the rich and famous, The May Fair is one of the grandest and most luxurious hotels in town. Spend your night in the renowned May Fair Bar, where you’re bound to spot a famous face (or 5), before bedding down in one of the extravagant rooms. The May Fair have a fantastic Easter deal available, which includes one of their seasonal chocolate afternoon tea’s, as well as Selfridges vouchers for you to spend!

Included in the package for stays between 22nd March and 7th April 2013:

  • Luxury accommodation
  • Chocolate Afternoon Tea
  • Exclusive Selfridges voucher – spend £200 and receive a gift card for £40
  • Full English breakfast
  • Complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel
  • Less than £300
intercontinental-hotel-westminsterSecret 5* Hotel (which isn’t so secret, it’s the new Intercontinental Westminster!)

There is a “secret offer” on Secret Escapes at the moment, offering you the chance to stay in a 5* hotel in the heart of London at a reduced rate. It doesn’t take a genius to work out the the hotel, which gives you the chance to “stay in Queen Anne’s former chamber” is actually the new Intercontinental Westminster, which is located in a historic 19th century building within minutes of Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament*.

Now. If you book through Secret Escapes, the room rate for the night is £156…which is a huge reduction on the cheapest available price on the Intercontinental website (£265). Pretty good deal, yes??

PSSST! If you do book that, and then produce your booking confirmation to the hotel, you MAY get the first night free. Why? Because the hotel offers a best price guarantee, which says just that. You must read the T&C’s thoroughly (I’ve only given them a glance) but I think you may be in with a case, if you’re lucky!

*I have come to this conclusion by googling “Queen Anne’s Former Chamber”, and the results all point to the new Intercontinental

Further Afield

If you want to escape the big smoke but don’t fancy flying away or travelling too far (ROAD TRIP!!), here are some of the best offers within driving distance.

BucksThe Bull Hotel, Buckinghamshire

Situated in the exclusive area of Gerards Cross, this Buckinghamshire hotel is less than an hours journey from London, yet feels a million miles away.

Housed in a 17th century building, which was originally an old coach house, expect good food, cosy drinks and a roaring fire. The deal on Secret Escapes offers rooms for just £69 per night (43% off) and include a stay in an Executive room, full English breakfast and, if you choose to dine in the hotel’s restaurant, The Bull will also include a complimentary bottle of house wine.

Barns Hote;The Barns Hotel, Bedford

Another one of Secret Escapes deals (I do so love that website), The Barns Hotel is offering a choice of rooms over Easter, starting at just £62 (a saving of 37%). This is a country hotel, set in 3.5 acres of gorgeous grounds, and offers lovely views out over the river Ouse, friendly and welcoming staff and delicious, traditional English cuisine.

The hotel has just 48 rooms but they are all spacious and welcoming, with free wifi (although we insist you shut off and relax for a night or two!). You also get free access to the pool and fitness club too. Bargain!

WindsorThe Harte & Garter, Windsor

One of my ex home towns! I am completely and utterly in love with Windsor, and if you haven’t visited recently, I urge you too. Not only is it beautiful and packed with shops, lovely restaurants and bars, but it also has some of the most wonderful attractions in the country too. Take a tour of Windsor Castle, go for a strol down the long walk and take in the majesty of Windsor Great Park, or jump on a boat down the Thames.

The Harte and Garter is a fantastic hotel, located right opposite the Castle. It really couldn’t be in a better location. Secret Escapes are offering rooms from £89 (56% off rack rate) and the package includes breakfast, a choice of rooms, an afternoon tea and access to teh spa. Amazing!

If you want to get a little bit further away, consider one of these options, which are within a couple of hours on a plane away. Who cares if it’s last minute? It’s also pay day, right? Be spontaneous and go,be adventurous!

G HotelG hotel, Galway

I have been lucky enough to experience afternoon tea at the G Hotel and I can vouch for the fact this hotel is AMAZING. Set in the beautiful Irish town of Galway, this 5* hotel, designed by Philip Treacy, includes breakfast and an optional ESPA spa experience.

Everything in this hotel is luxurious and beautiful – which is why it was voted the number one hotel in Ireland recently. So…You can’t really argue with the Secret Escapes price of £109 per night…and flights can be found on Skyscanner from as little as £34!

Silken Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao, SpainBilbao

OMG. If I wasn’t already booked up, I’d be jumping on this offer. The wonderful Silken Gran is situated opposite Frank Gehry’s spectacular Guggenheim Museum in central-Bilbao, and is suitably impressive itself. Packed with uge sculptures,  geometric doors and room themes which epitomise iconic design eras, a stay at this Design Hotel as much an education in art as a visit to its next door neighbour.

The restaurant in the hotel is DOMA, run by Martin Berasategui, the only Spanish chef to have acquired seven Michelin stars. YOur package from Secret Escapes includes 25% discount on all of the hotel’s food and beverage menu, a 25% discount on parking, a 25% discount on body massages, facial beauty treatments and wellness body treatments (excluding other services such as manicures, pedicures and waxing), one ticket per person for the Guggenheim Museum and finally, a late check-out until 2pm. And best of all? It’s just £84 per night – a discount of a huge 73%!

Flightscanner says flights are available from just £57.

What are you waiting for. GET BOOKING!!
