Five great family ways to celebrate the Jubilee in London
You only have to look at our events section to realise how much crazy stuff is going on in London over the Jubilee weekend. With such brilliant parties happening, you may be spoilt for choice. But it’s a little harder when you have kids to consider…so we’ve come up with a great list of regal things to do with the family in the capital to celebrate the Queen’s remarkable 60 year reign!
A day at the races
Her Majesty will begin her celebrations at the Epsom Derby on the 2nd June 2012. This spectacular event is just the first of a whole series of celebrations to mark the Queen’s 60 long years – it’s one of the oldest and most popular horse meets in the global racing calendar! And with prize money valued at over £1million, this is an event worth seeing.
Take an awe-inspiring tour of the famous Kensington Palace
What better way to spend a royal day, than on a tour of the opulent Kensington Palace? A great day out for people of all ages, you’ll have the unique opportunity to take a look around the famous King’s Gallery as you take in the utter majesty and splendour of a beautiful building that has been in the Royal family for centuries.
If you have the chance, we recommend you grab a look at the peaceful 18th century royal courtier before you wander through the breathtaking state apartments. And if you fancy having some royal treatment of your own, you’ll also have the option to indulge in some afternoon tea with champagne.
Discover the grandeur of Buckingham Palace
Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style, at the quintessentially regal landmark that is Buckingham Palace. As you take a slow walk through its magnificent hallways that lead the grand rooms that are ordinarily reserved for aristocrats, you’ll have the chance to stop for traditional treats including tea and scones.
The Jubilee Festival at Hyde Park
Sainsbury’s will be hosting a family-friendly, two-day festival in Hyde Park. Revellers will be treated to live music and entertainment including celebrity performances, equestrian events, and spectacular motorbike stunts to name just a few. It truly will be fun for everybody – the finale consists of Disney songs for the kids!
Plus….Don’t forget the street parties!
If you’re in the capital for the Jubilee weekend, you aren’t going to be from a street party. These are also a great way to get to know your neighbours as they all turn out to celebrate a truly royal weekend!
