Ladies, Who's Your Girl Crush? (We all have 1…or 3!)

A long, long time ago, when this blog was just a baby, I wrote about my Girl Crushes.

It’s still one of my favourite posts…and despite the years and the many changes, all of those crushes still stand, to one extent or another. But my goodness, there are so many fabulous women out there in the public eye at the moment, I felt it needed a tiny bit of updating.

First of all, and this is a little bit nuts, there’s Paloma Faith.

Now. I used to think Paloma was a little annoying. I was not a fan. But the more I’ve listened to, seen of and come to appreciate her, I’ve fallen a little tiny bit in love. Her style is undoubtedly sensational – even if it’s not something I’d choose to copy – and her confidence, originality and quirkiness are all incredibly cute and endearing. She’s also got a wicked sense of humour, which makes me want to both hang out with her, and be her. Just a little bit. Not weird at all, is it??!

Next is Padma Lakshmi.

Unless you’re a fanatical cooking show fan, like I am, you may not have come across this beauty. As the host of Top Chef, I’ve been following Padmas style and grace for the last 9 seasons, but only receently have I noticed what a bloody great personality she has too. She is physically perfect, but Padma has a story. Her life has not been easy, she’s had family problems, as horrendous car crash which left her with a large scar, was married to Salmon Rushdie, got trapped in a traumatic custody battle over her child, and then watched the (billionaire) partner she’d finally found happiness with pass away. OK, she’s probably now a very wealthy woman, but that’s quite a burden. Yet still she’s down to earth, exceptionally intelligent, talented, funny, likes  a drink and has a face that is as close to perfection as possible. Like her. Like her a lot.

Sneaking in finally is Emily Blunt.

I never really gave Emily much consideration in the Devil Wears Prada days. She was just an actress who played an amusing role in a film. But over the last few years she has developed into such an incredible talent and beauty, she’s started to really shine in my eyes. She’s not obvious, stays classy, and smiles with a sleepy eyed look that makes me think she’s hiding something. This is the lady who remained dignified after being cheated on and hurt so publicly by Michael Buble (that man is no saint) and put it all behind to her to take on role after wonderful role and become one of Englands best Actresses. And my goodness, she’s got gorgeous!

I know it’s not just me who has girl crushes, as so many of you responded on Twitter last time I posted about this. So….who are yours? Please let us know in the comment box below, I think this could be really interesting!

  • Rachel McAdams and Emma Stone. I think both are a case of if you can’t hate them love them. Both having starred opposite Ryan Gosling as his romantic interest.

  • Rebel Wilson – Funny AND smart, most of the funniest lines in Pitch Perfect were created by her.

Elizabeth Banks – ridiculously underrated. Beautiful, hilarious and clever (she recently produced Pitch Perfect, seeing a trend here?)

Jane Levy – I’ve just been talking to Sam Sparrow about how underrated Suburgatory was, overshadowed by Girls (NOT a fan). Jane Levy, the star with fab hair, is the kind of role model I’d want my future kids to look up to. Witty, passionate and resistant to stereotypes.

Gilmore Girls – Who doesn’t want to be one of the Gilmore Girls?

  • I’m in my 50’s and thought girl crushes were strange, but now I’m having one of my own!!
Catherine Russell who plays the scarey Serena Campbell in Holby City is one of the most beautiful ‘mature’ women I have ever seen. She also has an fantastic speaking voice and a wicked sense of humour. She sparkles (in a scarey kind of way) and I’d give anything to have her cheekbones !!
