One of my favourite parts of running this blog, (along with getting to check out some of the most amazing places in London and meeting wonderful new people all the time, of course) is getting sent previews of music that may never have made it to my ears otherwise.
Today, the new single from Gypsy & The Cat arrived in my inbox, and I really enjoyed it. I’ve never heard of the Aussie band before, but immediately liked the scratchy guitar and sixties psychadelic vibe of “Only in December”. I delved a little further, and listened to the title track from their soon-to-be-released album, The Late Blue, which I didn’t just like, I loved.
It’s dreamy, complex music that has a definite summer vibe. The kind of tune I can picture playing on lazy sunny days in the park, while kids play frisbee and the smell of cut grass fills the air. Heavenly.
Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers, the boys behind the band have spent most of the last two years touring (including a spell with Kylie in 2011) after being awarded a Gold Record for their first album, Gilgamesh. It remains to be seen if the new album follows suit.
What do you think? Like or Loathe?
The Late Blue: release date 6th May.
