We are spoilt for choice when it comes to Afternoon Tea in London. There are hundreds of delicious options, if you know where to look. But, while there are lots of themes and seasonal changes, it’s fairly rare to get something that truly sounds different to the norm.
So, we are definitely interested in learning that the renowned London restaurant Aquavit (it’s sister restaurant in NYC holds 2 Michelin stars) is launching a Nordic Afternoon Tea next Monday (27th March).
Whilst the basis of the treats are the same mixture of sweet and savoury, the content is a little different – and we like different. Expect an assortment of open sandwiches will feature classic Nordic flavours such as Gravlax, Shrimp Skagen, and Venison tartare, presented in a contemporary style on the restaurant’s distinctive housemade rye bread; a selection of traditional Swedish pastries including Semla, cardamom buns filled with almond paste and topped with whipped cream; and Punsch-roll, with crushed cookies and punsch liqueur wrapped in marzipan then dipped in chocolate. Further sweet treats will include the delicious sounding Mums Mums, with fluffy marshmallow dipped in chocolate, and a choice of seven different types of cookies, which, according to a Swedish tradition, is the ideal number that should always be offered to guest.
There are a few options available:
- The Fika Afternoon Tea (£27.50) will include a choice of teas served in a beautiful, floral Rörstrand tea set, or Swedish coffees from Johan & Nyström.
- The Champagne Afternoon Tea (£39) allows guests to indulge in a glass of Ruinart Brut Champagne in addition to the Classic Afternoon Tea menu.
- The Aquavit Afternoon Tea (£65) has been developed in collaboration with the iconic Danish design company, Georg Jensen, being served in an award-winning tea service from designer Henning Koppel. The offering will include a glass of Dom Pérignon, as well as having the addition of freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves. This luxurious offering will be perfectly in keeping with the sophisticated Nordic décor that is so characteristic of Aquavit London.
