Greek food has got to be up there with one of my favourite cuisines. Kalamata olives, souvlaki, pastitsio, spanakopita – I love it all! So when I heard about OPSO, a modern Greek restaurant located in the heart of Marylebone, I jumped at the chance to check it out.
‘OPSO’ – meaning a delectable morsel of food – couldn’t be a more appropriate name for this place. The menu is made up of a various small plate dishes, all of which sounded absolutely delicious (with the exception of the snails and chips, which I was slightly skeptical of).
As usual, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach and we completely over ordered. We kicked things off with the dakos salad – a mix of semi dried cherry tomatoes, olives, feta cheese and crispy bread rusks (yum!), the smoked metsovone cheese with homemade rhubarb jam (this was a favourite) and the handmade spanakopita. The larger plate menu provided further temptation – the 16-hour slow cooked lamb shank served on a bed of tomato and lemongrass orzo is an absolute must-order.
Despite having eaten enough food to feed a small family – we couldn’t resist trying a couple of the traditional Greek sweet treats they had on offer. In an effort to be as authentic as possible – we chose the two we couldn’t pronounce – the galaktoboureko and loukoumades (hard huh?!) – and god, I’m glad we did! They. Were. Amazing!
OPSO’s laid back, yet still lively atmosphere makes it the perfect date night, or girl’s night catch up destination. Definitely check it out.
