I am standing outside Karen Millen in Covent Garden. It’s so busy…full of tourists trying to find the opera house. I ignore them and hope they never find it. I am terrible, quite often give out wrong directions just for the hell of it…and because it makes me smile. Naughty.
Before I tell you the reason Karen Millen has been chosen as my “Shop Of The Week”, I must first tell you a little bit about me and “Karen”. I have always had a bit of an indifferent relationship with our Karen. In the past, I’ve always thought that if all else fails, I can always run into KM and get a dress that will do for whatever occasion I have been asked to find a dress for. They have always been my back up…not a first choice. Like insurance I guess. “Oh, yes, that dress doesn’t work on you. Let me run to KM and find something similar”.
This time though, I walked into the store in Covent Garden and was pleasantly surprised from the word go. The smiles on the faces of the helpful staff make it a pleasant place to shop, and i seems that Karen has really grown up. There are still glimpses of the sparkles and sequins and buckles that I have grown to expect, but some pieces are SO grown and up chic, it really amazed me.
So…this is why Karen Millen was chosen as Shop Of The Week. Great pieces for reasonable prices….and a great place to stop for the Christmas party season. Here are some of my key choices:
Absolutely adore this little number. It will work perfectly as an option that will take you from the office out to a few drinks. At work wear it with grey pumps and for going out, slide on some fabulously high shoe boots. Most of you would possibly wear this with thights in the winter, which I totally understand, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some of you with bare legs, high heels, little black jacket and a smoky eye. Add purple nail color and GO! I would be tempted to cut the sleeves off though. Don’t know why, but I would love to see this dress without them. Don’t try that at home….or if you do…don’t blame me.
VavaBOOM! Now, I am fully aware that this dress is a little slutty. But my oh my, it’s so fabulous! Like a knee length Jessica Rabbit.
The “folding” will hide all sorts of lumps and bumps. If you’re attempting to wear this, let the dress do the talking. It is already screaming for attention, so there is really no need for big jewels or ridic shoes. Keep it simple. Hair in a sleek pony tail, black strappy sandals, neutral make up. You have to tone it down with this one, but it will be worth it. You will still be noticed. Trust me.
Yes sir, Please Sir, YES SIR! Cobalt purple blue gorgeousness. A little over the top, admittedly. However, I think this is a great coat for winter. Like I have said before, adding some color into your winter wardrobe is the way forward. This coat is a brave move, but well worth it.
OMG! Loves this little number. Will look amazingly chic with black trousers. The perfect work shirt. Totally. The dark navy is obviously one of my favourite shades of blue and the fit of this piece is just amazing.
Flirty enough without being tarty. Sorted.
Grey and lush. During the colder months, I am all about cardigans. Not so keen on other cover ups. Cardigans are great for layering and much easier to take off if needed. And have you ever got stuck in your roll neck? Of course you have! Wearing cardi’s will eliminate the embarrassment!
Dear Karen, thank you for becoming a little more grown up and well done on making it to my ever important “shop of the week” list. We love you this winter.
