These Little Stars Went to London…

By Owen Tonks

Once again, Valentine’s Day has arrived and yet again, I am alone. No, no, I’m not bitter or anything. My complaint arises due to the fact that I am allergic to Valentine’s Day. In fact, I’m best left alone and locked in a dark room on the 14th of February as, in the past, my allergic reaction has caused me to spontaneously vomit, often at random couples in the street. Not pleasant for either party!

Let’s face it, this pointless day that encourages people to shove their happiness in your face is actually an invention by the greetings card companies. Yes, it does have some religious meaning and is actually Saint Valentine’s Day, but it was in fact removed from the Roman Catholic Calendar of Saints in 1969 by the Pope at that time. Nice one Pope and in your face sickening couples!

Despite my allergic reaction and the day having been officially deleted from the calendar, people still insist on celebrating it and some stars have already been spotted out in London on cosy dates. Selfish! Here’s what the glitterati have been up to in London this week.

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant was spotted at the amazing American restaurant Big Easy on Chelsea’s Kings Road this week. If whispers are to be believed, he was being showered with attention by three stunning ladies. Maybe he was confused and was celebrating Valentine’s Day a week early. Or, maybe he has returned to his philandering ways, such as the time he was caught with escort Divine Brown in Los Angeles. Now, I’m not suggesting the bachelor was employing three lovelies to be seen with him but does the Love Actually star really need to go out with three women? How greedy!

Take That

I don’t know whether Valentine’s Day has somehow infected the air, or whether Take That fever is on the rise, but staff at the stylish No. 92 bar at the Notting Hill Brasserie have had to turn love struck fans away after the man band visited. The group are currently rehearsing for their summer tour and have been frequenting the bar after a hard day’s work to sip on some cocktails. Gary Barlow recently admitted that he doesn’t see Robbie Williams as being part of the band in the long term but Robbie has been rehearsing with them for the upcoming tour.

Emma Thompson

Actress Emma Thompson was recently seen laughing and joking with staff at Yo! Sushi in Harvey Nichols as she treated her daughter to lunch. Perhaps the star was attempting to take her mind off of legal issues facing her latest film about the love triangle involving 19th century Art Critic John Ruskin. The story has previously been run as a play on Broadway in 1999 before coming to London in 2005 and Emma is accused of infringing copyright by taking sections of the script for the film.

Tinie Tempah

The BRIT Award nominee enjoyed dinner with family and friends at The Gun in the Docklands this week. The rapper was the support act on Usher’s OMG tour at the O2 Arena this year and recently spoke about his BRIT nomination. In an interview with the Daily Mirror, he said: “I wasn’t expecting the BRIT nominations. I was there the year before watching my idols pick up their awards. I thought it would be a few years before I’d even get nominated. I never think about winning, but if I could pick it would be for Best Single or Breakthrough Artist.”

Justin Lee Collins

Funny man Justin took his new girlfriend on a rather unconventional date this week. The TV Presenter and Comedian visited Tottenham Court Road’s Spearmint Rhino and stayed for quite a few hours, if rumours are to be believed. A source said: “Justin enjoyed a few rounds of drinks and watched the stage show for a few hours. He had a good time and talked with a female companion while enjoying the show.” Who ever said romance was dead! Apart from me this week, of course.
