This Little Lady's Thoughts on a Royal Wedding….

Much as I adore London, there are times when I get a little bit disappointed in our generally shocking attitude to…well…just about everything. We can be a miserable lot. No-one smiles on Public Transport. No-one is polite to local Shop-Keepers or their neighbours. We moan, a lot. Horrid bunch really. Most of the time.

This weekend though was completely different. The nation erupted into patriotic madness – and it was fantastic. Neighbourhoods came together for huge street parties, decked out in red, white and blue, fancy dress and Kate and Wills face masks. Pubs opened early and screened the wedding to millions of us. There was more bunting than was frankly necessary and I can honestly say I have never seen so many cupcakes in my life. It was awesome.

The wedding itself was a beautiful affair. I love the fact that our young royals mixed historic traditions with modern twists. As predicted, Kate (or is it Catherine now?!) looked stunning in an incredible creation by Sarah Burton for McQueen – a huge salute to the King of British fashion who left us far too soon. The dress shows more than a passing resemblance to Grace Kelly’s gown, worn way back in 1956, and who can blame her for channeling such a style icon?

Prince William and Prince Harry both wore traditional Military uniform – with Wills coming off much better than Harry. He may be my favourite Royal, but can one of his advisors please invest in some Yoga immediately? Terrible posture from the ginger one. Perhaps the sight of Pippa Middletons perfect bottom distracted him somewhat? It certainly captivated the rest of the nation. What a figure! Over 92,000 people on Facebook agree so far….that’s some fan club for an arse.

As for the guests – there were some major outfit wins…and some undeniable losses. Here’s our little run down of the good, the bad, and the absolutely hideous!

Victoria Beckham

Pregnancy chic, from her own collection (of course). Simple and understated. Was a little surprised to see Mrs B in navy, but it worked for her. Cannot believe she can wear those shoes when pregnant though. The lady is a professional – no doubt about that! (No need at all to mention the hot man by her side…is there??)

Joss Stone.

Dull. That is all I have to say on this. The colour popped but no effort really made. Looks like something my (plain) cousin might borrow from my (plain) Aunts wardrobe. Disappointing.

Sam Cam.

Now, I like Samantha. But really, who does she think she is, not wearing a hat when the Queen has specifically asked her to? Cheeky wench.

Carol Middleton

Love love LOVE this outfit on Kates Mum. Classic and perfectly tailored, the colour suits her and the style is absolutely perfect. well done Mother-of-the-Bride. Wish more Mums looked this stylish on their daughters big day.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Super colour, although possibly a little too much of it?! Should hate it as it’s so matchy matchy, but somehow can’t. Unlike most of the coverage though, I cannot avoid mentioning the collapsing nose. Very, very sad.

Chelsea Davy

I like Chelsea. I do not, however, like this outfit on her at all. Looks slightly ill-fitting, and just a bit, well, bleurgh. More effort for your own wedding please Chels!

Princess Letizia of Spain

I do not know much about Princess Letizia. However, I love this outfit. Absolutely spot on for her and completely appropriate for the occasion. Some reports have called this look lacklustre..but it’s one of my personal favourites.

Princess Leitizia

Charlene Wittstock

Absolutely loving the elongated Peter Pan collar here, and the colour is beautiful. An absolute stunner. Can’t wait to see what she wears for her own wedding to Prince Albert of Monaco (coming soon!)

Princess Beatrice

Outfit wise, Beatrice did rather well. Hat-wise? Perhaps a little OTT?! I think Fergies girls try super-hard to be stylish but miss the mark nine times out of ten. Someone send in a Stylist, please??

Princess Eugenie

I do not know what to say. Vivienne Westwood is one of my favourite Designers of all time, but she must be crying into her soup everytime she see’s a picture of this. She’s a lovely girl, but here Eugenie looks like a peacock threw up on her. I wish I could get close enough to the girls to suggest that sometimes – less is most definitely more….
