Bored with your exercise routine and want to do something a bit different?
I was invited to a David Lloyd gym to test a ViPR class out recently and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I love high impact sports – like running and spinning so was a little but adamant when I was offered to do a strengthening class – would I even break a sweat?
But what is a ViPR (Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning) class? It aims to tone and strengthen body muscle while you use a weighted rubber piece of kit, which comes in three different weights.
Taught in small classes, mine had just four of us in it – our instructor Clare helped us warm up then showed us some different moves with the ViPR. A big weighted hollow tube, it has two handles and can be used in different ways to not just tone up the arms but also the legs while you squat and lunge with it.
We did various exercises, in thirty second sessions, with the ViPR tube – including an upper cut, side lunges and squats while we tried to balance the weight and push it to the top, after many unsuccessful attempts I did it – thankfully without knocking anyone out.
After we’d repeated a range of exercises with the ViPR I was sweating, energised and felt as though I’d exercised my whole body. And if my achey legs and glutes were anything to go by the next day I’d definitely had a different kind of work out that I was used to.
