What I Wish I Wore: Summer Sun (finally) in London Town…

It’s beautiful out there, isn’t it?

The last couple of days have reminded me just why we live in this city. After the relentless rain of recent weeks, a couple of days of sunshine and warmth makes such a huge difference to Londoners. People are smiling. The pace is slightly slower. It’s…nicer here. And I’m not *quite* so desperate to escape.

There’s an expectant buzz in the air too, ahead of the Olympics (not long now!)

Today, I had to rush across to East London for a meeting regarding the new Time Out app – which I’ve been testing, which was amazing…but involved the tube. Or as we should call it for the next few weeks…HELL.

Lack of air-conditioning/over-crowded carriages make it hard to stay glamorous, and in reality, I wore a lightweight white summer dress and strappy flipflops – comfortable and casual, but not super sexy.

If I had the wardrobe of dreams though? Well. Today would have been entirely different. As the me who has the wardrobe of dreams also gets to travel across London in a wonderfully air-conditioned car, with a nice Driver, who we shall call Tom.

And when Tom arrived to collect me today? I would have been wearing this…

Pucci, Givenchy, Elie Tahari

Bloody gorgeous, isn’t it?

I love the dress, light and floaty, and perfect for getting no tan line as you walk around London in the sun. The shoes are comfortable but will still give you that confidence you can only get from a little bit of extra height – they’ll be invisible – but you’ll know they’re there! As for the bag? Gorgeous Givenchy. Vivid colour is just what you need on a bright day like this, and this oversized clutch is big enough to carry everything you need (phone, credit card, lipstick, shades, house keys) and sleek enough to look thoroughly stylish as you glide into those meetings.

UGH! This outfit is right at the top of my lust list. Just a few more meetings…and I may be able to afford it…right?!

Todays #WIWIW stockists are:

  1. Emilio Pucci Bandeau Maxi Dress | £1845.00
  2. Givenchy Antigona Large Clutch | £715
  3. Biltmore Satin Wedge Sandals | £205.00

All from Selfridges. My absolute favourite department store IN THE WORLD. And the grand total? £2765

However, if you, like me, actually do live in the real world? Here’s a similar outfit, on the high street, that you could snap up right now.

And the stockists for this?

  1. Ted Baker Florah Dress | £229 | House of Fraser
  2. Orange Clutch Bag | £9.99 | New Look
  3. Oasis Wicker Wedges | £55 | ASOS

Total? A much more achievable £293.99. That’s nearly 1/10th of the Designer outfit…

Amazing!

What do you think of today’s outfit? Would you wear it? Do you think the high street version is a good comparison? Let me know in the comments box below.

Love the outfit but… I did see a girl get her maxi dress caught in the side of the escalator on the tube. Lucky someone hit the emergency stop button in time. The old fashioned “pick up your skirts” should be noted.

Oh no! At least it didn’t rip off. Now that would have been terrible (if not a tiny bit funny….) x
