Samsung are on a roll at the moment, aren’t they?
Not only do you have the opportunity to win a Samsung Galaxy Portal Smartphone in our fabulous TLLWTL competition, but you now have the chance to win a whopping £2000 too! And let’s face it, that would be a welcome bonus for just about anyone.
So how do you get your hands on this wonderful windfall? Simple really. All you need to do is come up with an original idea for a Galaxy Portal Smartphone application, and let Samsung know all about it.
The app could be anything, from the weird and whacky to the practical and long overdue. Maybe you’ve had an idea in your head for some time – or perhaps it will come to you in a dream. Who knows?! Whether its an idea to make life more interesting and fun, or to help you be more organised, Samsung want to hear from you.
The great thing about this competition is that it’s designed for people who have limited technical knowledge but fab ideas. You don’t need to design the app yourself, just describe what’s in your head! It could be an app to help you decide what you’re going to wear in the morning, a way to find out which bands are playing near you, or even one to help you get the kids up to school on time. There are no limits. For some inspiration, why not learn more about the phones capabilities and check out the current hot applications.
Judging the initial entries will be the Gadget Show’s Suzi Perry and Jon Carney, CEO of digital agency Marvellous. Together they will decide which app ideas are good enough to be put to the public vote to decide the winner.
So, if you’ve always wondered why there isn’t an app for something in particular then just send in your idea via the competition website. Once the panel of judges have chosen a short list of five, it will be put forward to a public vote to find the winner. The idea that gets the most votes gets made and will be available for everyone to download from Android Marketplace for free. As well as seeing their idea become a reality – the winner also gets £2,000. (and 4 runners up will receive a Galaxy Portal Phone too. Lovely stuff)

April 8, 2010 at 2:23 pmMy app would be,the door alarm has a small hanset in the house, but when someone presses the doorbell incase you don’t hear the small handset go “ding dong” the app then rings on you’re phone to let you know somebodys at the door,we always know where our phones are but the bell handset sometimes it’s ran out of batteries so it “ding dongs” on the phone app.

April 8, 2010 at 2:52 pmAn app that helps you to calculate the important things in life … Farmville crops! A countdown to let you know when your crops are ready (this could be done by selecting the appropriate crop from a list when you plant them). It could also help you to choose crops that will finish at a time when you are going to be available to harvest them by knowing your time-zone and either having preset “awake hours” e.g. 9am – midnight or hours that you enter yourself. This could also be adapted to include timers for trees and animals (assuming they are all synchronised). I’m not sure if there is a way to use an API to synchronise with farmville directly but that would be the ultimate application of awesomeness. There have been previous attempts at farmville apps but mostly they fail or are very basic countdown timers. I hope this helps!

April 8, 2010 at 5:21 pmSomething that I could programme everything in that needs to be done, and by what time so that it would tell me when I need to start doing everything. Sort of like a recipe for a 3 course meal – you don’t always begin by doing the starter if you see what I mean.

April 8, 2010 at 6:44 pmA diet app! When in the supermarket, you type in the barcode of whatever you fancy, or select from a preset list and the app remembers what you have eaten that day/week and lets you know if you cam afford the calories/salt/fat. It could also be set to remind you that you haven’t had your five a day, your 8 of water, or any of the other million and one amounts we’re meant to remember!
I would find it so handy as I avoid salt due to migraines.

April 8, 2010 at 8:44 pmMy application would be a GPS with a list of cashpoints listed so when I’m out and about and need cash, I’d turn the phone on and it would direct me to the nearest cashpoint.

April 12, 2010 at 10:54 pmYou put in how many hours a day you train, what you lift and how far you run and it tells you what and how much you need to eat and how many hours of sleep you need to get.
