GIVENCHY NYFC RUNWAY SHOW

Set on the banks of the Hudson River in Tribeca, with the old site of the twin towers in the background, the Givenchy set was constructed from recycled materials and debris that could be used later and leave no waste. Two streams of light beamed into the evening sky as a mark of respect as the show began, and even the models walked with a restraint and elegance that was somewhat somber in mood.

It’s Sunday morning, and instead of having a lay-in and breakfast in bed, I’m feasting my eyes on the deliciousness that has been NYFW SS16 so far. In particular, the stunning show from Givenchy, headed up by Creative Director Riccardo Tisci, that took place on September 11th.

The show was notable for many reasons – not least the date. The entire production played homage to those we lost in the 9/11 tragedy, with some moving touches by Artistic Director Marina Abramovic. Set on the banks of the Hudson River in Tribeca, with the old site of the twin towers in the background, the set was constructed from recycled materials and debris that could be used later and leave no waste. Two streams of light beamed into the evening sky as a mark of respect as the show began, and even the models walked with a restraint and elegance that was somewhat somber in mood.

The guestlist included everyone you would expect on the FROW. Julia Roberts, Kanye and Kim (Watching little sister on the catwalk), Nicki Minaj and Ciara. Models included Kendall Jenner, Candice Swanepoel (who unfortunately stumbled), Joan Smalls and Mariacarla Boscono, chosen specifically by Tisci to represent the sensual side of his style.

And, of course, there was the fashion. The garments on show from Givenchy were incredible; a mixture of leather and lace, romance and edge. The palette was almost entirely monochrome, with a heavy influence on tailoring, although this was softened for the Spring season.

Givenchy’s SS16 collection is stunning, wearable, classy and desirable. In fact, if I only had somewhere to wear it, I think I’d want it all. However, the neutral leather mosaic dress was the stand-out for me. Perhaps without the face lace though.

You can watch the show in the video below and take a look at the collection in the gallery below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If you want to get your hands on some gorgeous Givenchy garments right now, see here or here. And if you’d like to buy me some? Well. That would be fine too.
