Travel: The Perfect Trip To…Barcelona

Recently, the TLL team were contacted by the lovely folk at HolidayGems.co.uk, who asked us to describe our perfect trip to Barcelona as part of their #BarcelonaGems Blogger challenge. Here’s what the lovely Camilla Brown would get up to if she was lucky enough to win a trip to the Catalonian capital…

This was a tough post for me to write as, honestly, I’m not exactly a seasoned traveller. Don’t get me wrong, I have OWNED the likes of Spain and France… when I say owned, I mean I’ve gone there on family holidays and played on the arcades at the beach. I want… no, I NEED to win this trip to Barcelona because I am so utterly void of culture. I thought Valencia was in Italy. True story.  I probably shouldn’t admit that, but instead of going down the heart-string route, writing a witty poem or just…literally…begging, I thought I’d give good ol’ honesty a try. So there you have it, my name is Camilla and I’m a travel virgin. Please, #BarcelonaGems, pop my culture cherry.

So, who would I take? That’s a toughie. It would be amazing to take the man of my dreams so we can hold hands and skip through Camp Nou, taking in the largest stadium in Europe with me sprouting off impressive football stats I’d researched on Wikipedia beforehand to make him fall in love with me even more. We’d then wander aimlessly through the buzzing, cobbled streets of Las Ramblas, giggling at the other tourists attempting to speak in broken Spanish… he would spin me around in his arms and whisper into my ear; “let’s get outta here, baby”, proceeding to run off to a more secluded area to carry on canoodling and see more of the amazing city. We’d stumble across El Raval and have our breath taken away at the beauty, then play eeny, meeny, miny, moe like smitten teenagers to decide which of the stunning tapas restaurants to eat in, finally landing on Restaurante Jardi, which has nothing to do with Trip Advisor. Nope. Not at all.

We’d feed each other juicy calamari, sizzling prawns and melt-in-your-mouth cheeses, all washed down with a hearty Rioja, rendering us heady and giggly as we set back off into the city. Feeling like we need to dance off the calories, we’d hot foot it over to BeCool, the club for in-the-know locals… we ain’t tourists no more! Hours of dancing, kissing, giggling and making new BFFs would ensue, ending in two drunk, giddy and loved-up people collapsing onto a bed of egyptian cotton and rose petals, falling into a deep sleep and dreaming of more adventures to come.

We’d wake with breakfast delivered to the room. Churros and coffee, just because. We’d then wander into the city to take in some culture (and more coffee), such as discovering the amazing modernist architecture, with Park Güell being top of our list. Feeling a little sore from the evening before, my lover and I would decide a hike up the Montjuïc mountain would sort us right out. We grab a bottle of fizz, some breads and meats, and start our journey. At the top, breathless from both our lack of fitness and the stunning views… my beautiful, amazing man would get down on bended knee and ask me to be his wife. I’d, of course, accept with glass-shattering squeals and floods of tears. We’d pop the champagne, take a seat on the grass, and toast to the most perfect weekend in Barcelona. All thanks to the amazing #BarcelonaGems.

Of course, that would all be absolutely awesome, if said dream man existed and I wasn’t actually, extremely single. So, I’d probably just take my best mate Emz and do the same, just without the nookie and stuff.

So, #BarcelonaGems, help a girl out and give her some culture to get her teeth around. Oh, and you never know, she may meet said man of her dreams if she wins. You could even come to the wedding.
