Glitz & Glamour: Getting ready for the LLA's…

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times now, I am really proud to be a committee member of the @LLAwards, which are taking place next Wednesday.

There have been hundreds of London based businesses and personalities that the public have voted for, and we have scrutinised, assessing their contribution to London, Customer Service levels, and general fabulous. It’s been huge amounts of fun, and we’re looking forward to celebrating the winners in style at The Hurlingham Club this week. It’s so exciting!

Anyway, as most of you know, I’ve not been particularly well of late, so I’m not getting out as much as I’d like to. Which means I’m much more likely to been seen hanging out in loungewear than a designer dress most of the time. Not this week though. I’m making the most of the chance to glam up and doing it properly!

Firstly, the gown. I am making the most of the wonderful Girl Meets Dress service – and turned to Twitter earlier in the week with a few options. The unanimous decisions was one of these fabulous floor sweeping dresses from Dina Bar-El, the genius behind Kate Hudson’s head-turning yellow beauty in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”.

(For the final decision, you’ll have to wait for the photos…)

Over the top? Absolutely! But why not? I don’t get to do this often.

I’m also heading along for a full on, award-ceremony-worthy make over at Leticia Haute Coiffure – one of the nominee’s for an award – who have promised to primp and preen me so that my hair, make up and nails are in suitable shape to match such a fantastic dress.

Montblanc Fine Jewellery (not necessarily what I'm wearing, but beautiful, non?!)

And the pièce de résistance? Well. I am lucky enough to be able to borrow some beautiful Montblanc fine jewellery, to complete the look.

OK, OK, so it’s not ACTUALLY all about me. I get that. Honestly, I do. But for one night only, I’m allowed to feel like a princess if I want…right?!

If you’re not already using Girl Meets Dress, I highly recommend taking a look at their website. They hire designer dresses for a fraction of the price it would cost you to buy – have a large range of sizes and stock some of the famous garments you’ll have seen on your favourite celebrities – just like this Herve Leger dress that Beyonce recently wore on TV. Perfect for weddings, birthdays, new years eve, the office party – any occasion where what you’ve worn before just will not do! Hire prices start at just £39 – so for the same place as TopShop – you can wear McQueen!

    Well, since you asked…

Cream is great if you are doing an evening stroll on the red carpet in LA, but at night in an auditorium you risk being too wedding-dressy. And if you can pull scarlet off, and the choice is between that and black? Please, no contest: every other evening dress at a London event will be black. As my friends and mentors used to tell me “Nothing exceeds like excess.” Go all the way, shine.
