I discovered Galina’s Shamaeva’s artwork by happy accident – during a seemingly innocuous Instagram scrolling session, and have since become somewhat obsessed with it. So much so, that I’ve already had the Mr’s agreement to feature her pieces in his upcoming property development project. And we’re not even in the ground, yet.
Now, the Mr isn’t always so agreeable (and is extremely selective about what goes into his high-end developments) but in this case, he was as impressed as I was. It’s easy to see why. Galina creates abstract pieces, using a combination of ink and resin. They are organic and fluid, and give the impression of life, emotion and movement in the most beautiful way. Each piece takes on it’s own personality, like breath coming off the canvas.
Sprituality plays a huge part in each subject, but not in a contrived, obvious way. Galina creates from the heart and the spirit, with energy as her guide. Certain pieces are almost meditative, while others are more passionate and intense. All are mesmerising.
I don’t claim to be an art critic, but I know what I like and, as a Designer, I have a huge appreciation for simple, yet emotive work that draws attention and makes you feel something. And this certainly does. I highly recommend taking a closer look if you’re after something original, serene and beautiful.
