I have been harping on about how lucky we are to have a smashing local in Maida Vale for the last few months now – but there may be trouble on the horizon for my beloved pub The Elgin.
The second best pub in the area, The Idlewild, may be no more – but a new, shiny contender for “Best Local” has opened it’s doors. The Truscott Arms, which sits on the site of the old Idlewild on Shirland Road, is an independently owned pub, defined by the Management teams catchphrase of ‘relaxed excellence’.
I haven’t been yet, but am looking forward to checking out the new venue, as I’ve heard good things. The new team pride themselves on great food and “localism”, sourcing the best possible ingredients as locally as possible. They’ve also put a lot of effort in to update and completely change the interior; gone are the black walls, and in has come a brighter, more friendly pub.
I’ll be popping in there at some point this week but would love to hear from you if you’ve already visited. Let me know your thoughts in the comment box below. And please don’t worry, Team Elgin. Whatever happens – we’ll still love you!
