The Hunt for London's Best Burger: BRGR.CO, Soho

BRGR CO

Those of you who follow This Little Lady on Facebook will know that over the last few months, I have been eating my way round the (now fully fledged) burger scene that London has to offer. My plan initially was to do a round up much like we did with the member’s clubs. But the thing is, every time I thought I’d done them all, someone would tell me about another new burger place that had just opened that I simply had to try. So I have decided to scrap that plan and just start writing about them. Starting with the last place I went to: BRGR.CO.

I had heard mixed reviews about this place which actually made me want to go and visit more (just to have an opinion, you know). You can find BRGR.CO on Wardour Street a stone’s throw from Bryron, Honest Burgers and Burger & Lobster so it’s got stiff competition in that respect.

I took one of my oldest friends Nicky (@Nichap10) along for some proper food and a catch up. We walked in and were pleasantly surprised by the cosy décor. It feels like a proper restaurant (if you know what I mean), not a burger bar. Couples cosied up round little tables, lit candles stand on a shelf in the middle, some rather entertaining sculptures of cows don the walls, and there’s a big open kitchen (I am always a fan of an open kitchen – it show’s they have nothing to hide).

We were led to our table and browsed the menu. The concept behind BRGR.CO is pretty straight forward: simple, no-fuss burgers, made from great cuts of meat. Right up my street.

To start with, I went for a classic wedge salad in anticipation of the burgers to follow and Nicky went for a good, old fashioned mac n’ cheese. Mac n’ cheese is one of my favourite things so predictably I ended up eating as much of it as he did (food envy is the worst feeling in the world and this was too good to resist…)

On to the main event! After grilling our waiter with regards to what we should order, I opted for the 6oz ‘The Butcher’s Cut’ Burger with cheese, and Nicky chose the 8oz ‘The Masterpiece’ (he was hungry) with sides of parmesan and truffle fries and messy chili fries.

The burgers come presented in a similar rustic fashion to Meat Liquor – on metal trays and greaseproof paper. Mine was delicious. It was cooked just pink enough and the bun remained intact until I’d finished without being dry. You could taste the perfect amount of cheese, and the whole thing was juicy and delicious. I also like that your salad, gherkin and tomato come on the side so that you have the choice to put them in your burger or leave it plain. Nicky’s burger was also great and cooked beautifully, although maybe due to the fact that he was being a bit greedy (well…come on…) with an 8oz, the meat-to-bun ratio didn’t work quite as well as mine.

I’d ordered the chili fries based on the recommendation of a friend who said I had to try them, but for me, a truffle addict, the truffle cheese fries hit the spot perfectly.

After taking a break to digest, gossip, and sip our wine, it was time for dessert: cheesecake and an ice cream sundae with M&Ms! Both came served in tall glasses with long spoons that made us feel like kids again.

Overall, we had a brilliant night and had to be rolled home after eating faaaar too much which can only be a good sign. I’m not saying I’m going to give up Honest Burgers all together, but I would definitely come back here. The service was friendly and efficient, the staff didn’t rush us, and the burgers are exactly what BRGR.CO claim they are: uncomplicated and good quality.
