I just tried to count how many times I’ve been to hospital in the last 10 years. Not to visit, but for operations and procedures. I lost count around 30, and would imagine it would exceed 50…give or take a needle or two.
I’m lucky enough to have never needed an organ donation – but I have relied on blood transfusions in the past, and know people who have had their lives transformed thanks to donors and the incredible gift they give.
This week it’s National Transplant Week in the UK, and their fabulous campaign, Pass it on, is calling for everyone to add their names to the donor register AND tell their family and loved ones of their wishes. Many people who have always meant to “pass it on” just don’t get round to it, and people are dying every day when they don’t have access to the organs that would have saved lives.
In fact – this week alone, 21 people will have passed away due to lack of donations. 21 lives could have been saved.
Currently around 10,000 people need a transplant in the UK and three people die waiting every day. Those are big statistics, and ones we can change.
To add your name to the ODR please call 0300 123 2323, text JOIN 84880 or visit www.transplantweek.co.uk

Great idea. I am registered as an organ donor, but obviously at this point in time, it would still entirely depend on my next of kin. Whilst it is a bit of a depressing subject to bring up around the dining room table, I’ve informed my family that I wish for my organs to be donated should the worst happen and I know that they would respect that.
Exactly Nikki!
It’s not a nice subject, but it is something that needs to be discussed. Weirdly, I’m happy for everything to be donated except for my eyes. Strange, I know. Just have a weird feeling about my eyes. Take the rest though – gladly!
