Our good friend and gorgeous contributor Mel Kirk recently started posting a weekly feature over on her blog, RandomMel.com. It’s called The Monday Currently and it’s a beautiful idea, in which she examines where she is in life every week. It’s a lovely diary type piece that demonstrates just how quickly the world around us changes. As Ferris Bueller famously said:
Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
The boyfriend has that quote on his email signature…and it’s very true.
So…with Mel’s permission, I am adopting this feature for This Little Lady too. I’m hoping it will be motivating to both me and anyone reading – just as it was for me when I read it originally.
I’m challenging myself to answer the questions quickly – without over thinking – and to be totally honest. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete the challenge every week for a year, and this is the first time I’m setting myself such a task. I’m quite looking forward to it.
So, here goes:
| Reading: | I have been catching up with my Google Reader this week, which is long overdue. I am not a fan of the aesthetics of the standard Google Reader so have tended to avoid it, meaning I am way behind on all my favourite blogs and sites. This week, however, I discovered Feedly, which works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Tablets or Mobile…and looks great. The blogs I’m particularly enjoying at the moment are Street Art Utopia (satisfies my love of urban art, without having to leave the house. Magic!); Gala Darling, which is helping me readjust my way of thinking and The Cool Hunter, which searches out the best bits of the UK (and rest of the world). Take a look at them and let me know what you think. | |
| Listening: | Fearne Cotton’s show on Radio One. Girls Aloud were in the Live Lounge today and sang an absolutely wonderful rendition of “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Emilie Sande and Labrinth. Have a listen…really quite special, no?
(Such an old picture there – odd choice, but hey) |
|
| Thinking: | How nice it was to have my brother visit for lunch today. It was brief but nice to catch up as it’s been about a year since we last saw each other. I do worry about him though. | |
| Smelling: | The rather odd scent of a body cream I tested today. It’s meant to be Mango but it has that strange tainted smell that most fake tans have – even though it isn’t a fake tan. Weird. I won’t mention the brand, it’s not one I’d recommend unfortunately. | |
| Watching: | I have nothing on right now, but last night I was catching up with Top Chef season 10 online. I absolutely love cooking programmes – and Top Chef is by far the best. Have a total girl crush on Padma Lakshmi too. Intelligent and beautiful. Some girls get all the luck! | |
| Wishing: | That I’d been able to sort out my Christmas fundraising gig for Barnados. Unfortunately I was too poorly to arrange everything in time and I’m gutted. I just wanted to make sure some less fortunate kids had the happiest Christmas possible. This WILL happen next year, I’ll start planning early enough to avoid similar issues. | |
| Wearing: | My favourite River Island boyfriend jeans that I’ve had for about 4 years, paire with my multicolured Odemai top. Both are oversized and super comfortable (it’s one of those days) but the top gets me compliments whenever I wear it. WIN. | |
| Hoping: | That I am able to get a venue sorted out for my next social media event today. The event will be in February but until I get a place to host it, I’m stuck! | |
| Loving: | Having my boyfriend home this week. It hasn’t been so nice for him – the poor love has been really ill, but it’s nice to have some company at home for once! | |
| Wanting: | To have more money in the bank than I do right now. December is TOUGH. Oh..and these Louboutins of course! |
|
| Needing: | To send my gorgeous friend Lorna a text as soon as I’ve finished here. It’s a tough day for her as she says goodbye to a dear friend, and she’s on my mind. | |
| Feeling: | Tired, but strangely happy. Life is tough at the moment, with health and financial struggles, but you know what? I still feel blessed. I am surrounded by great people, am still capable of so much and have a life full of love. What more could I really need? |
And there we have it.
This next week is going to be hectic – I’m still trying to put this website of our back together after “hack-gate”, so have 1000’s of images to replace and Christmas posts to write. But I do adore this time of year…everyone just seems a little bit more cheerful, despite the vile weather…and that’s something I love to see.
I hope you all have a lovely week…and I wonder what next week’s Friday Feelings post will hold!
(Big thanks to Mel, and to the site that inspired her, for this fab idea!)

OK…so I’ve just added something else to my Google Reader after it has literally had me in tears of laughter. Check out this incredible post on cracked.com
